Connecting Auraria: Larimer Bridge Replacement and Streetscaping

The project was envisioned not only as a rebuild of the 60-year-old Larimer Street Bridge crossing Cherry Creek but also as a gateway linking downtown Denver to the Auraria Campus, creating opportunities for approximately 35,000 students to engage with downtown businesses. A reinvention of the car-centric streetscape, the design prioritizes multimodal travel and pedestrian experience through innovative design features such as a curb-less street, stormwater planters, awnings and additional way finding elements. The bridge sets a benchmark for future projects by showcasing how thoughtful design can transform infrastructure into lively, accessible spaces that support equity and enrich urban life.
