Starting summer 2016 through early 2019, CDOT and Hamon Infrastructure will begin the $97.5 million North I-25 Express Lanes project—from 120th Avenue to Northwest Parkway/E-470.
This project will continue the previous Express Lanes project, which was completed on I-25 between US 36 and 120th Avenue, and extend the Express Lanes to Northwest Parkway/E-470. It will increase safety, capacity, and user choice in a rapidly developing region.

Background
In August 2011, CDOT completed a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) that includes the North I-25 corridor between US 36 and State Highway 7—one of the most congested stretches of highway in the Denver metro area. This stretch sees an average daily traffic volume of 174,000 vehicles per day. The FEIS identified a preferred alternative for this corridor.
Project Benefits
Add capacity and ultimately provide the choice of a reliable trip.
Improve safety and help reduce rear-end collisions—the most predominant corridor crash type.
Increase inside shoulder width from 4 feet to 10 feet, providing much-needed width for crash avoidance maneuvers and a safer refuge area for stalled vehicles. Concrete barrier collisions are the second-most common crash type along the mainline I-25 study corridor.
Install an auxiliary lane along northbound I-25 to connect the 136th Avenue on-ramp to the 144th Avenue off-ramp, which will help drivers merge more comfortably between the two interchanges.
Improve driving conditions by resurfacing the roadway.
